2009 Dick Smith Sydney Cycle Grand Prix
After having an outstanding season Fly V Australia are tipped to be the team to watch in the weekends 2009 Dick Smith Sydney Cycle Grand Prix, which will be contested as part of the new V8 Supercars Sydney Telstra 500 event at Sydney Olympic Park.
Fly V Australia have plenty of depth in their line up which includes National Champion Bernard Sulzberger top sprinters Jonathan Cantwell and Ben Kersten, a super domestics Scott Davis and David Kemp, plus brilliant youngster Michael Hepburn who also has connection to the team will also race the event.
However although Fly V may have the most depth in their team the likely winner of the event is still very difficult to find given the Quality of the field. With entries still coming in Pro tour riders include Wesley Sulzberger of the French FDJ Team, Allan Davis who rides for Bleguims Quick Step, and Garmin (USA) sprinter Chris Sutton whom all look to have good propects. While the world’s leading sprint team “Columbia HTC” represented by fast men Greg Henderson  and the worlds best lead out man Mark Renshaw will receive the most attention from both riders and spectators. Oceania Continental Contract teams Jayco/AIS, Drapac Porsche and Budget Forklifts also can brag excellent chances in the circuit event which will be contested on the V8 circiut at noon on Saturday (5th December 09).
Jayco/AIS riders Travis Meyer and current world u23 champion Jack Bobridge will be very aggressive during the event, as too the Drapac Porsche riders Zakkari Dempster and Bay Classic Green Jersey winner Dean Windsor. Budget Forklifts after a excellent year in Australia and Asia will be represented by Grafton to Inverell winner Malcolm Rudolph, Cody Stevenson and Blair Windsor, while other continental team riders include Joel Pearson of Savings & loans and Matt Wilson of USA team Type 1.

Bathurst has won the Silver Medal in Elite Men Team Sprint at Sydney Dunc Gray velodrome on the weekend (Sunday 06 December 2009). The team of Jarrah Deans, Craig Hutton and Angus Tobin are just 3 of the young developing riders that are come through the local ranks at the moment; suggesting the area looks set to continue its excellent cycling tradition in the future. The Title was won by Wagga, whose team consisted of noted speedster Paul Fellows, Jamie Green and Thomas Regan who recorded a very slick  48.57 seconds for the 3 lap (750m) time trial. Bathurst time of 53.05 seconds almost half a second faster that 3rd place Dulwich Hill
Bathurst also had two junior team contesting the Team Sprint Championship both of whom made the minor Final for the Bronze medal, sadly both teams had the settle for 4th when Wagga Wagga defeated the local team of Harrison CARTER, Lachlan WHEELER and  Mackenzie JONES in the Under 15s Division; and Lidcombe Auburn took the Bronze medal off the Bathurst team of Harrison Jones, Harrison Carter and Mitchell Wheeler in the under 17s category.

Bcc Events 29/11/09
In the “Toireasa Gallagher All Women Handicap,” the experience of Jodie Martin conquered the young talent of Hollee Simons. In actual fact the reports are that the two riders combined very well together to record and excellent win. Great to see former National masters champion Jodie Martin getting back to full health, and of course the continuing improvement from Hollee and the other juniors in the club. Briefly heard that Craig Hutton continued his good form to win A Grade, while the talented Brad Cady is making a successful come-back to cycling, with and impressive win in B grade over the inform Marko Simmons and another talented rider in Drew Carter. My spy didn’t have much information on C and D grades except to keep an eye out from Rob Stephen in a future handicap and the Huttons had a good day with Bruce also in the results.

Bathurst Masters Cyclist performed well at the 2009 Australian Masters Road Cycling Championships at Stromlo Forest Park, Canberra, last weekend headlined by Bruce Goddard Silver Medal performance in the 50 to 55yrs Category.
Goddard started the Road race as one of the favourites having just returned from the World Championships in Austria where he finished with a top 20 world ranking.

McDonalds 49th Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic
Local Bathurst cycling Mark Gallagher and Steve Bennett will be taking on one of the biggest cycling challenges in Australia when they race the Grafton to Inverell this weekend. The pair will contest the division 2 category and although both have trained well and performing excellently in local A Grade events, they are nervous about the 228km haul that lies infront of them. The task made even more difficult with the inclusion of the 20km climb up Gibraltar Range in the route, and to add even more pressure, all riders are given a Maximum time limit of 9 Hours to complete the course.
With almost $30,000 on the event Team Budget Forklifts will talk a strong roster to the Classic and will among the favourites to talk the Division 1 category, however local team member Blair Windsor will miss the event due to focus on the coming NRS Teams events - Goulburn to Citi, and Tour of Tasmania

UCI World Master Championships - August 23 – 28, 2009: St. Johann in Tirol - Klasse 6, 76 km
Bathurst Bruce Goddard has achieved his goal of a top 20 ranking:
The local Civil Engineer Firm Proprietor Bruce Goddard contested World Masters Championship in Austria on the weekend, racing the Class 6 event which consisted of 2 laps around a 40km Loop starting at St. Johann then going through Huberhöhe to Erpfendorf, Kössen, Schwendt and back to the finish in St. Johann. The course is an ideal championship course with moderate climbs, fast flat sections and a very fast sprint to the finish. With Worlds Champion Jerseys and trophies for the riders finishing with a top 20 ranking in each division the pressure is on right from the start. However with the experience of racing the titles in 2008, Goddard felt more relaxed this year in the top quality field on the challenging course. Hoping to break clear Goddard was in the action for the entire race, climbing on the front of the bunch over the tough sections on the course including  the climbs up Huberhöhe and Schwendt. However the winning move came very late in the race when danger man Bert Bakker got clear while Goddard had drifted back in the field. The Bathurst racer tried to get across to the Dutch strong man but ended up in a 50 rider sprint for the silver which was won by noted brunch sprinter Robert Glabl of Germany, the Bathurst cyclist finishing 19th in the dash to the line to achieve his goal of a top 20 world ranking.
Note: after two days of Road Racing Goddard is the only Australian to make the top 20 world ranking with 10 divisions contested

The Interclub Event attracted cyclists from through out Western NSW, with strong continents from Dubbo, Mudgee, Orange and of course the local Bathurst Club.
Bathurst pair Phil Cole and David Lowe combined well early to hold a good lead to the hill, however on the climb the backmarkers started to pull back the leaders. Yet it was the combination of the 10 minute and 11minute groups that formed the race winning bunch, with a small group of four, Rick Thomas (Mudgee), Chris Cady (Bathurst), and Oranges Rob Bennett and Brian Kennelly, attacking clear of that bunch to fight out the finish.
Cady kept attacking in the ride to the finish line however the 4 remained together with Thomas to fast in the sprint to the line with the luckless Cady a gallant second infront of the 2 Orange riders Bennett and Kennelly.  Simon Egar won the sprint 5th from Graham Stait and Marty Guy, Dubbo Junior Aaron Willmot 8th in front of Tony Hogan and recently Selected NSW Junior Rep Harrison Carter.
Scratch Markers, Blair Windsor, Craig Hutton and Conor Trott worked hard to get into contention but simply found the task to tough, Hutton taking fastest time honours. While Jill Harris rode strongly from the 18minute mark to be the leading female after catching and passing Jasmine Lee and Dubbo Junior Emma Appolony who took third infront of Dubbo winner Kim Thomas of Dubbo.
